Inventory control or asset management can be also done with barcode, although RFID technology is more automated.

A barcode is a machine-readable representation of data, which is widely used by virtually all industries.

The data in a barcode may be as simple as an inventory code (SKU) or as detailed as a description of all the contents of a shipping container. Linear or 1D (one dimensional) bar codes, like 3 0f 9 and Code 128, hold a limited amount of data, which is used as a key or license plate to access a database.  2D (two dimensional) bar codes, like the PDF417 or Data Matrix, can hold a significant amount of information which can be used as a portable database.

Recent advancement is 2D barcode technology, including the QR (Quick Response) code and smart phone applications, have dramatically expanded the capability and functionality of barcoding in the Mobility marketplace.

Traditionally barcode scanning requires additional peripheral hardware like scan-equipped mobile computers or fixed mount scanners. However, smart phones or tablets with cameras can be now easily used as barcode scanners. More and more enterprises are looking to enable a BYOD (bring your own device) environment, and empower employees through their smart tablets or phones.

Whether your application scenario needs traditional dedicated barcode scanners or smart phone apps, RFID4U has the experience and capability to design, build and implement any barcode solution.
